  • Collaboration planned in areas including quantum computer deployment and expansion, application development, and education
  • Plans to increase quantum computing usage experiences to advance technology and promote commercialization

Seoul, South Korea, 19th September 2023 - The quantum security specialist company, Norma, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IQM Quantum Computers (IQM), the European leader in building quantum computers, to initiate the introduction and expansion of quantum computers in South Korea.

Under this MoU, both companies have agreed to collaborate in various areas, including the introduction and expansion of quantum computers, joint development of applications using quantum algorithms, and joint implementation of quantum education programs.

The MoU underscores both companies’ shared commitment to working together with players in the ecosystem to boost South Korea's growing quantum computing sector.

Norma, through active collaboration with global quantum companies, aims to advance domestic quantum technology, and with this MoU, they expect to take a significant step forward in the field of quantum applications.

In addition, Norma has strengthened partnerships with European quantum computing companies and institutions, following their partnership with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in May 2023. They anticipate enhanced synergies and effects.

Norma's CEO, Mr. Jung Hyunchul, emphasised the importance of expanding quantum computing usage to accelerate quantum technology development and commercialization. He stated:

We will increase opportunities for people to experience quantum computing through projects such as quantum education programs and application projects in collaboration with IQM.”

IQM, on the other hand, has been actively engaging and sharing its technological development updates with policymakers, academia, quantum technology experts, and companies in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. In South Korea, IQM has been participating in several quantum initiatives, such as Quantum Korea 2023, where the company exhibited its quantum technology achievements and capabilities.

We are delighted to be partnering with Norma to promote the growth of the South Korean quantum computing ecosystem, and we are honoured to take part in developing quantum science and technology professionals and preparing South Korea’s quantum industry infrastructure while hoping to contribute to the country’s strategic goal of becoming a global quantum technology powerhouse by 2035,” said the CEO and Co-founder of IQM Quantum Computers, Dr. Jan Goetz.
This MoU with Norma is aligned perfectly with our mission and strategy for the APAC region, and it represents a significant milestone for the South Korean quantum computing market. In this collaborative effort, we reinforce our commitment to advance quantum technology in South Korea, and we look forward to this journey of shared growth,” added Dr. Wolfgang Hackenberg, the Chief Business Officer at IQM Quantum Computers.
